Copper
Square covering 90 square blocks in downtown Phoenix (see
Tip) has become a magnet for the arts, sports, dining and
shopping. The aptly named Arizona
Center (see Tip for location) is in the heart of Copper
Square Downtown Phoenix and is a great place to start or finish
a day of exploring. The Center offers diverse shopping, quick
meals or leisurely dining and a fun place to just hang out.
With its AMC24 Theaters and Phoenix
Live venue there is something for everyone. Think Phoenix
Live for nightclubs, sports bar, dancing, live music and even
a sing-a-long bar.
There
is nothing that compares with live entertainment to exhilarate
and amuse. The Herberger
Theater at 222 E. Monroe, a Phoenix favorite, presents
450 productions each year including drama, Broadway favorites
and dance. Parents take note: the Herberger is strongly committed
to programs for children. Plan to arrive early at the Herberger
and view the creative work of Phoenix artists.
The Dodge
Theatre located at 400 W. Washington (see
map) was designed specifically for concerts and Broadway
shows and features such diverse personalities as Jerry Seinfeld,
Jose Carreras, and David Copperfield. The historic Orpheum
Theatre, lovingly restored for use as a modern venue,
offers Broadway plays, jazz and classical groups, children’s
programs and even old silent films on Sundays. See "Tip" for
directions to the Orpheum.
For before
theater dining we suggest Lombardi’s at Arizona Center with
its northern Italian menu including pizza and seafood. Kincaid’s
Fish, Chop & Steakhouse at 2 S.3rd St. in the Collier Center
is another good choice.

The beautiful and historic St.
Mary’s Basilica noted for its stunning architecture and
stain glass windows is located across from the Herberger and
just south of Arizona Center at 231 N. 3rd Street. Heritage
and Science Park (see
map) is also within walking distance.
