Every
season brings new pleasures and new activities to Desert
Botanical Garden, one of the area’s premier destinations.
The 145 acres are designed to foster an appreciation of the
diverse and mysterious desert environment through education
and hands-on activities.
All ages
enjoy the winding trails enhanced with interactive exhibits.
Children love to play the Desert Detective Game-
pick up a game sheet as you enter the Garden. Desert
Botanical Garden presents a wonderful opportunity to observe
the many birds that build their homes in the Garden. Desert
plants offer a rich source of food, nesting materials and
nesting sites for a wide variety of birds including hummingbirds,
Cactus Wrens and Verdins. Docent-led
bird walks are held every Monday morning- check website
for times or call (480) 941-1225).
The Garden
offers numerous delights throughout the year such as the Great
Pumpkin Festival, Sunday concerts, family
events, and workshops. For lunch or snacks stop by the
Patio Café featuring sandwiches, salads, drinks,
brownies and a children’s menu all in a lovely terrace setting.
Not to
be missed is the Garden Gift Shop that is packed
full of goodies from beautiful books for adults and children
to cactus dish gardens, toys, jewelry and gift items. The
adjacent Garden Plant Shop specializes in desert plants, seeds,
and pottery as well as informative help on plant care. Both
shops can be visited anytime without paying the Garden admission
fee.
