Papago Park offers something to satisfy every taste. Experience
Arizona’s desert and mountain beauty along the foot trails
and then plan to spend some time (or cast a line) at one of
the fishing lagoons. Spend an hour or a day in this multi-use
Phoenix City Park- take a hike, ride a bike, play golf
(see "Tip"), visit the Phoenix
Zoo, have a picnic.
Papago
Park covers 1200 acres and is located at the junction
of Galvin Parkway and VanBuren St. in southeast Phoenix near
the airport (see "tip" for map and phone number). We suggest
a first stop at the well-known Phoenix landmark Hole-in-the-Rock.
This interesting geological formation of naturally eroded
rock may have aided the ancient Hohokam people in understanding
the seasonal movements of the sun.
For a
more modern experience drop by the Phoenix
Zoo, located on Galvin Parkway on your right shortly after
entering Papago
Park. A popular and reasonably priced venue, the Phoenix
Zoo lures all age groups to join in the fun. Of special
interest are the various modes of transportation available
to tour the Zoo, choose from a one-person chopper to a 4-wheel
deuce coupe for the whole family; you can even cruise the
Zoo lagoon in your own boat. Add 4 diverse exhibit trails,
special children’s activities, great food and everyone is
happy.
Tip:
Parking is free throughout the Park.
